John Muir Trail, 2021

Allyson, (trail named Clarity), received a permit for June 25, 2021 to thru-hike the John Muir Trail, known as one of the most beautiful treks in the world! The JMT is a long-distance trail in the Sierra Nevada mountain range of California, passing through Yosemite, Kings Canyon and Sequoia National Parks. This opportunity of a lifetime will serve a dual purpose as a fundraiser for two animal rescue organizations in Athens, Georgia, where in the last 20 years, we have worked to bring our community euthanasia numbers down from nearly 70% to less than 10%! We still have miles to go before we sleep. Time to start walking!

Every mile Clarity walks can help save homeless dogs and cats!

On February 17, 2021, I, (Clarity), lost the canine love of my life, my 17-year-old Scruffy. Having saved him off the euthanasia table while managing http://www.Athenspets.net back in 2004, he traveled with me through the best of life’s times and down into to the lowest valleys without ever losing stride by his mommy’s side. For all of the homeless Scruffies out there, this hike is for you, “little guy”. Please consider making a donation in Scruffy’s honor and help us save others just like him because, in my case, saving him also saved me.

Pledges will be paid at the end of Clarity’s hike and will go directly to the 501(c)(3) organization, Athens Area Humane Society. Donations will be shared with 501(c)(3) Athenspets Inc. All donations are tax deductible to the extent allowable by law.

Athens Area Humane Society

Our story: AAHS houses and cares for homeless cats and dogs. We average over 1100 adoptions per year, and we are a no kill, limited admission shelter with 95% of our animals coming from regional animal control facilities. The spay/neuter program is designed to combat pet overpopulation at the heart of the matter with over 5,000 surgeries per year. We offer a non-lethal solution to pet overpopulation so that we can lead the way in creating a no-kill community.

Our Mission: We rescue and protect companion animals by providing for their wellbeing, uniting them with loving homes, and advocating for a compassionate society.

Athenspets

Our Story: Athenspets began 20 years ago when a dedicated volunteer recognized the need for a website to promote the homeless animals available at the municipal animal shelter. We became a 501(c)(3) in 2015. Since our beginning in 2001, we have played a direct part in reducing the euthanasia rate from near 70% to below 10%! We spay and neuter approximately 550 animals per year to impact the root of the pet overpopulation problem.

Our Mission: Athenspets is an all-volunteer organization dedicated to helping the animals at Athens-Clarke County Animal Services find permanent homes or rescue placements and to reducing pet overpopulation in Athens.

Pledges will be paid at the end of Clarity’s hike and will go directly to the 501(c)(3) organization, Athens Area Humane Society. Donations will be shared with 501(c)(3) Athenspets Inc. All donations are tax deductible to the extent allowable by law.

Please consider making a positive impact in our world that is meaningful to you. Leave it better than you found it. <3, Clarity
